This past Saturday we had over 40 volunteers come to our warehouse to help rejuvenate our "garden" that had been neglected for months and months. Instead of a normal birthday celebration, Ellen Cottrill chose to celebrate her 50th birthday with her closest friends and family volunteering their time and resources to building a new green space. They selflessly labored the entire day and transformed our garden with lots of upcycled materials to keep in the spirit of Rethreaded’s mission.
Summer, a survivor employee who just happened to be working that day, got to experience the transformation of the garden...and the power of God’s love. When she walked out to check on the garden, she immediately saw her son’s pediatric cardiologist from years ago. Summer spent three years in and out of his office while her son underwent many surgeries for his heart condition. She had not seen him in five years.
The chance meeting was an incredible experience for Summer and a moment that will not be forgotten. The two reconnected and each were able to share the joy and hope of healthy children -- including Summer meeting the child her surgeon talked about adopting and had since adopted.
The garden was already a special place, but has now become an even more special place for the Rethreaded family to spend time. We're so thankful for how our Rethreaded community loves us!
Come check out our new garden at our Spring Release Party next week!
